Can Writing Save a Life?
Painting (and photo) by Jesse Draper 2009
I’ve just spent the weekend exploring the amazing Vancouver blogs out there. There is a community of such gifted writers, and artists in this city. So this humbled and severely rusty writer is attempting to start a new blog, and jump into the pool instead of always dipping my toes in to test the waters.
I’m grateful to be exposed to some of the work being produced by artists and writers in Vancouver because when it comes time to re-emerge from the creative cave one has cowered in for a long time, it’s comforting to see the world has gone on just fine without you, thank you very much, but also sensing that you’re welcome to join the fray again.
This site will be an attempt to re-train myself, and utilize the remainder of my brain cells into establishing a place where I can write about things I observe, events and attractions in Vancouver, profiles of local artists, and last but not least, the sarcasticdogs. They demand to be heard!

Can writing save a life?
All I know is that other people’s writing has saved my life, and writing something, anything, is a solid refusal of the soul to extinguish.
Reading what people in my city are producing on their blogs and witnessing their personal and creative struggles and triumphs while bravely pushing forward, inspires me to attempt a few of those toddler steps in my own direction.
Meanwhile, the life saving slobber of a good or even not-so-good dog that loves you unconditionally. They can be cheeky buggers, but I can live with the trade off.
What?Not a misogynistic mutt?!
